Modern basement renovation

Why finish your basement?

  • Do you have aging parents who can no longer live (or you don't want them) on their own?

  • Have your teenagers grown out of their childhood bedroom and do they need more space to invite friends to hang out?

  • In need to accommodate an in-law suite so that your kids can grow up next to grandparents?

  • Do you want a second income? Renovate the basement and rent it out. This income will help to pay off the mortgage faster.

  • Create a separate entrance to make a basement space more private.

  • Get more storage space. Not always basement should serve as a livable room, it might just be the last missing piece of the storage puzzle. Get organized and turn the basement into a world of drawers, cabinets, shelves, add a wine cellar, you name it.

Major updates

- Exterior (window well, egress windows)

- Interior (staircase, bathroom, kitchen, any other room per request)

- Systems (heating, plumbing, electrical)

Is your basement water-tight?

That would be the first question to ask before going ahead with the renovation.

Usually, it's easy to check if there is any water damage in the past. Things to pay attention to - yellow spots on the walls or ceiling, cracks in the foundation, mold, musty smell, wet window frames, puddling underneath the windows, neglected floor drains. Depending on the time of the year you purchase/move into a new house, it's quite tricky to spot the damage. We would always recommend inspecting the basement for water damage before rushing into a renovation. Enquire about water fixing solutions. We work with carefully vetted basement repair and waterproofing subcontractors.
